چکیده

We present cross sections for rotational, vibrational, and fine-structure transitions in He–CaH(S) collisions at cold and ultracold temperatures calculated using the ab initio potential energy surface reported in the preceding paper. Rotational quenching is fast, vibrational quenching is slow. The spin-rotational interaction, although small and having no influence at temperatures above 10 K, changes significantly the rate coefficients for rotational quenching at lower temperatures. The theoretical rotational, vibrational, and elastic cross sections are compared with the results of a buffer gas cooling experiment carried out at a temperature of about 0.4 K. The theoretical predictions for the vibrational and elastic cross sections are larger than the measured values. The sensitivity to the potential energy surface is explored. A modified surface diminishes but does not remove the differences between theory and experiment. © 2003 American Institute of Physics. @DOI: 10.1063/1.1562947#

Direct excitations of He+ and Li++ ions by collisions with protons or antiprotons

The impact parameter formalism of the single-center close-coupling, first-, and second-order Born approximations have been applied to investigate direct excitations of Helium He+(2s) and Lithium Li++(2s) ions by colliding with protons or antiprotons. The total 3s, 3p, and 3d scaled excitation cross sections are calculated in the scaled impact energy region (2 to 1000 keV). The present work aims...

Spin polarization transfer in ground and metastable helium atom collisions

Cross sections and rate constants for total elastic, diffusion and transfer of metastability for collisions between He(11S)–He(23S) and He(11S)–He(23P) atoms over a wide range of energies and temperatures are presented. The rate constant for spin metastability excitation in He(11S)–He(23P) collision is several orders of magnitude larger than that for He(11S)–He(23S) collision at cold temperatur...

Collisional dynamics of ultracold OH molecules in an electrostatic field

Ultracold collisions of polar OH molecules are considered in the presence of an electrostatic field. The field exerts a strong influence on both elastic and state-changing inelastic collision rate constants, leading to clear experimental signatures that should help disentangle the theory of cold molecule collisions. Based on the collision rates, we discuss the prospects for evaporative cooling ...

Light-induced collisions of ultracold rubidium atoms

In this dissertation I present a variety of experiments on collisions between ultra-cold rubidium atoms. These collisions take place in light-force atom traps, where temperatures below 1 mK are reached. At these low temperatures weak, long-range interactions between the atoms are important, and collision times are long. Consequently, the absorption and spontaneous emission of photons plays an i...

Purely - long - range bound states of He „ 2 s 3 S ... ¿ He „

We predict the presence and positions of purely-long-range bound states of He(2s S)1He(2p P) near the 2s S112p P0,1 atomic limits. The results of the full multichannel and approximate models are compared, and we assess the sensitivity of the bound states to atomic parameters characterizing the potentials. Photoassociation to these purely-long-range molecular bound states may improve the knowled...
